OK so here's a piece of software that is either genius, dangerous or incredibly naive, I'm still making up my mind. The premise is brilliant. When your mobile gets stolen, which hasn't happened to me ever thankfully but I know it's a problem, there's little you can do. Obviously a thief isn't going to answer your call for a chat so it's pretty futile phoning your number. Wouldn't it be nice to know where your mobile had gone? That's what PhoneBAK does.
By working clandestinely in your phone, the software operates even when the thief switches SIM cards in the mobile. When your mobile is stolen you need to ask PhoneBAK to send a secret message to another mobile number (you must store a number in the software - remember to do this!) telling you the phone number of the burglar and their location. It even works overseas should the thief take flight to another country. With phones becoming increasingly expensive and stored with private data this makes it more likely that you can recover the phone. However, I suggest you call the police as well. As a general rule, thieves aren't that helpful when confronted.
